Azerbaijanis in Germany concerned over possible opening of Turkish-Armenian borders

08 April 2009 [17:34] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijanis in Germany are seriously concerned over the recent talks of possible opening of the state borders between Turkey and Armenia, says a statement of the German Azerbaijanis Coordination Center, according to the press service for the State Committee of Azerbaijan for work with diaspora.

The document fixes that this step of the Turkish powers was quite unexpected for Azerbaijanis. Throughout the history Armenians claimed for Azerbaijani lands and in the result of ethnic cleansing launched in 1988 they occupied 20% of Azerbaijani lands, including Nagorno Karabakh and adjacent 7 regions, forcing a million of Azerbaijanis to quit their homes.

The statement says that since the first day of the Karabakh conflict fraternal Turkey was by Baku's side and supported the national interests of Azerbaijan, cutting all ties with Armenia and repeatedly stating that Ankara might restore ties with Yerevan only after liberation of the occupied Azerbaijani lands

"Ankara's disavowal of such statements is a serious concern for Azerbaijani people and is assessed as a step damaging the Turkish-Azerbaijani relations", says the document.
