Azerbaijan's National Security Minister meets Italian colleagues

National Security Minister of Azerbaijan Eldar Mahmudov met Monday with the Director of Italy`s Agency for Internal Information and Security (domestic intelligence agency) Prefect Giorgio Piccirillo who is here to participate in celebratory events marking the 90th anniversary of founding of Azerbaijan`s national security bodies.

Mahmudov spoke of ongoing processes in the region, a variety of emerging threats, as well as Armenia –Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and its consequences.

He also briefed Giorgio Piccirillo on adequate measures taken by the National Security Ministry to fight threats caused by international terrorism, illegal drugs trafficking, illegal immigration and transnational organized crime.

Giorgio Piccirillo, in turn, thanked Mahmudov for warm hospitality.
He praised the results of discussions held to ensure security interests of Azerbaijan and Italy.
Piccirillo expressed confidence that his current visit to Baku would contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.

The sides stressed the necessity for exchange of experience and information to ensure security.
They also discussed other issues of mutual interest.

The same day, Azerbaijan`s National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov met with director of Italy`s Agency for External Information and Security Admiral Bruno Branciforte, who is participating in celebratory events marking the 90th anniversary of the founding of Azerbaijan`s national security bodies.

Eldar Mahmudov briefed Bruno Branciforte on national security-related legislative acts adopted in the country, ongoing reforms, emerging threats and other issues.

The Minister also told of the results of adequate measures taken by the National Security Ministry to fight against threats caused by transnational organized crime, international terrorism, illegal drug trade, illegal immigration and other threats.

Branciforte expressed gratitude to Eldar Mahmudov for the warm hospitality and detailed information.

He expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of discussions regarding the two countries` security issues.

Bruno Branciforte also praised the level of cooperation between special services of Azerbaijan and Italy.

The sides also discussed other issues of mutual concern.
