Azerbaijan considers integration with European structures important and attaches a great importance to development of relations with the world states, in particular Germany, said first vice speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Ziyafet Askerov Wedneysday at the meeting with the state minister of the federal foreign ministry of German Gernot Erler.

He noted that mutual visits of the heads of states and delegations contribute to the development of bilateral Azerbaijani-German relations. According to Askerov, today there is a good legal basis for the further deepening of relations between the two countries. He noted that today Azerbaijan is closely cooperating with the European Union.

Askerov also touched upon the Karabakh issue, noting that despite official documents about the need for unconditional release of the Azerbaijani lands, adopted by international organizations, Armenia continues its occupational policy towards Azerbaijan. According to the first vice speaker, 20% of Azerbaijani lands remain under Armenian occupation, 1 mln of Azerbaijanis are refugees and IDP. He said with regret that the separatist regime of Nagorno Karabakh continues intensive armament and ignores the norms of international law.

According to Askerov, due to application of double standards the world community does not impose any sanctions against the occupant. The first vice speaker highly appreciated Germany's support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, however, voicing concerns in connection with the aforementioned acts. According to Askerov, the right of nations for self-determination must be applied in the framework of observance of the principle of the territorial integrity of the states.

Germany attaches a great importance to the development of comprehensive ties with Azerbaijan, noted Erler. As for the Nagorno Karabakh conflict he noted that his state supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and voiced readiness to contribute to the resolution of the problem. He said Germany has no ties with structures, maintaining ties with separatists of Nagorno Karabakh and this is an official position of Germany.

According to Erler, Germany is ready to further develop ties in the political, economic, cultural and economic ties with Azerbaijan.
