Azerbaijan is important partner for EU: European Commission representative

"Azerbaijan is an important partner for the EU, and we place great emphasis on strengthening cooperation," the European Commission representative in Azerbaijan Alan Waddams said at the meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan on Energy, Transport and Environment.
According to Waddams, this meeting has a great importance and shows the overgrowing cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU.

The head of the European Commission noted the importance of deepening cooperation in the framework of the Eastern Partnership with Azerbaijan and other countries. The EU Eastern Partnership requires closer cooperation with EU with six post-Soviet countries - Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Armenia and Belarus.

The Eastern Partnership strategy includes energy issues, energy security, democracy, economic integration, as well as creating favorable conditions for strengthening the cooperation with EU partners, Waddams said. According to him, the East partnership summit will be held in the first days of May.

The implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of energy, energy security and infrastructure development, as well as the situation in the energy sector, the European Union, including the second Strategic Energy Report will be discussed at the meeting. Discussions are held on the basis of the partnership and cooperation agreements signed between the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan and the EU.
