Elnur Aslanov: "Near us there is a state that is causing damage to itself"

13 March 2009 [11:31] - TODAY.AZ
The situation in Armenia is proven by their economic and political state, said Elnur Aslanov, chief of department of political analysis and information of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, commenting on the transfer of Armenian servicemen, who passed voluntarily to Azerbaijan, to a third country.

"Armenia today does not take part in any important international and political projects. Near us there is a country that is damaging itself", said he.

The criticism of the actions of the government is frequently heard from former leaders of economic structures of Armenia, noted Aslanov.

As for the passage of several Armenian soldiers to Azerbaijan, he said Armenian citizens want to leave the country, being aware of the lack of prospects for their state.

"Moreover, Armenia is in fact not sovereign to execute possible independent movement in any direction. By the way according to official structures of Armenia negative migration balance was registered in period of 2008: as of January 1 of 2009 about 16000 people flee the country. Considering that this is an official statistics, and adding unofficial statistics here, such a balance for a country with a population of 3 mln, is not a good indicator of the situation there", noted he.

As for the possible influence of such facts on the further negotiation process, he said the leadership of Armenia should ponder over the opportunities, it losses due to its occupational policy towards Nagorno Karabakh and seven adjacent regions of Azerbaijan.
