US ambassador to Azerbaijan stresses important role of independent mass medias in informing citizens about referendum

"The citizens should make a decision regarding the need to introduce such amendments to the Constitution of the country independently", noted she.

The diplomat especially stressed the importance of informing the country citizens about the processes, ongoing within the state.

"In order to make a right decision it is very important for the country citizens to have full information about processes ongoing in the country and in this direction it is necessary to inform them about the public debates, conducted in the country", noted Derse.

The US ambassador also stressed the important role of mass medias in covering the ongoing events.

"The process is very important and there are several moments that I would like to stress. This is the existence of strong and independent press that largely contributes to these processes as well as provision of freedom of speech, expression and assembly", said Derse.
