Azerbaijani opposition plans to hold meeting

10 March 2009 [16:55] - TODAY.AZ
The agitation groups of the Movement "For Karabakh and Republic" and "Republicans" are planning to hold a meeting, said deputy chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Hasan Kerimov.
He said this meeting will be a result of the agitation campaign due to the conduction of a referendum on amendments to the Constitution.

"Oppositional parties have twice planned to hold a meeting on one of the central squares of Baku. Yet the mayor's office recommended us to hold the meeting in the Bibi-Eybat settlement.

This time we are also planning to hold our action on one of the central squares. We will execute our actions depending on the response of the mayor's office", noted he.

The initiator of the creation of the civil movement "For Karabakh and Republic" was the Azadlyg bloc, consisting of three parties - the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Liberal party of Azerbaijan, Civil Development Party, as well as a public forum "For Azerbaijan". The initiative also involved the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, Umid and Musavat parties and a number of NGOs.

The referendum on introduction of amendments to the Constitution is planned to be held on March 18.
