International conference on political and legal basis of referendum held in Baku

Holding a referendum is a good way for the further stable development of Azerbaijan, said Jean Paul Mourman, judge of the Belgian Constitutional Court, member of the joint work group on application of international standards in the sphere of human rgihts in Azerbaijan, speaking Friday at an international conference "Political and legal bases of referendum of March 18 of 2009 in Azerbaijan", held in Baku.

Fuad Aleskerov, chief of department for work with law enforcement bodies of the executive board of the presidential administration, in turn voiced confidence that Azerbaijani people will take an active part in the referendum on amendments and alterations to the Azerbaijani Constitution.

"I am confident that the population of the country will take an active part in the referendum and speak freely about the amendments to the Constitution", said he.

Alimamed Nuriyev, member of the joint work group and chairman of the Foundation of Constitutional Studies, noted that introduction of amendments to the Azerbaijani Constitution will create wide opportunities for the development of the legal basis, provision of human rights and improvement of different spheres of life in the country.
