NATO Deputy Secretary General: "The alliance welcomes the expansion of Azerbaijan's peacekeeping contingent in Afghanistan"

The aim of my first visit to Azerbaijan is to deliver several message from NATO, said deputy secretary general of NATO Claudio Bisogniero at a briefing by results of his visit to Azerbaijan.
"NATO pays special attention to the relations with Azerbaijan, supports Azerbaijan in the conducted reforms, especially in the military sphere and is ready to continue support", said he.

Bisogniero announced that in the framework of the visit he had a meeting with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Emergency Situations, as well as deputy Minister of National Security and vice speaker of the parliament.

"At the meetings in Baku I discussed relations between Azerbaijan and NATO as Azerbaijan is an important partner of the alliance as well as the issues of bringing the armed forces of the country to conformity with the NATO standards", said he.

Moreover, he voiced satisfaction of the alliance with Azerbaijan's participation in the peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan and expansion of its military presence in this country. He said this is Azerbaijan's important contribution to the stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan.
