Fikret Sadikhov: "Turkish leadership should not forget its history and ignore Azerbaijan's interests just for the prospects of EU accession"

The fact that Turkey is involved into the negotiation process on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and plays an active mediatory mission is a very positive factor for Azerbaijan, said famous diplomat and political scientist Fikret Sadikhov.

According to him Turkey is a close ally of our country. But on the other hand, he said Turkey's involvement into the further deepening negotiation process with Armenia prompts the idea of the readiness of the Turkish side to make a compromise.

"In this connection, it is important for the Turkish political elite not to forget the national interests of Turkey and remember the interests of Azerbaijan in a strife for EU membership", said he.

According to Sadikhov, the world Armenians are doing everything possible for all parliaments in the wolrld to adopt a resolution to recognize "Armenian genocide".

"In other words, if the Turkish leadership seriously thinks to open borders with Armenia, they must set such provisions to the Armenian side, as the rejection of the campaign of recognition of mythical "Armenian genocide" by the world community and liberation of the occupied lands of Azerbaijan. I am confident that Turkey should not forget its own history and ignore Azerbaijan's interests just for the prospects of EU accession.

According to the political scientist, Azerbaijan must set permanent consultations with Turkey.

"Our country should hold a hand on the pulse of the events, ongoing in our region and in the Armenian-Turkish relations. It is necessary for being prepared to any changes in the situation and adoption of timely resolutions in the moment of their possible execution", concluded the political scientist.
