Nushirevan Meherremli: "The issue of closing foreign radio stations in Azerbaijan should not be politicized"

The meeting of chairman of Azerbaijan National Television and Radio Council Nushirevan Meherremli with US representatives was held on December 3, said sources from the National Council.
As is reported, the US side was represented by representatives of the Broadcasters Board Doug Boynton, Enver Sefir, representative of Radio Liberty Julia Ragan, chief of public policy department of the US embassy to Azerbaijan Terry Davidson, adviser of the US embassy on political issues Joanna Hanson.

At the meeting Meherremli noted that the issue of closing of foreign radio stations in Azerbaijani is purely legal.

"It should not be politicized", said Meherremli.

At the same time, the chairman of the National Council spoke in details about the television and radio system of the country. He noted that the legislation have paragraphs, which ban the foreign companies from using the national frequencies of Azerbaijan.

Meherremli noted that foreign companies can conduct broadcasting only by means of a cable network, a satellite and Internet.
