Terry Davis: "One of the greatest achievements of Azerbaijan is a position, it takes in the issue of national minorities"

"President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is successfully implementing the developed programs on further democratization and development of the country", said CE Secretary General Terry Davis, attending the exhibition-fair "Day of Solidarity", held in the CE head office, reports Day.Az with reference to AzerTac.

Announcing that he will take part in the meeting of the Culture Ministers of the CE member-states to be held in Baku in early December, the secretary general said he has been in Azerbaijan for several times.

T.Davis announced that in the framework of the current visit he will visit museums and historical monuments by his own initiative and familiarize with the ancient history and culture of Azerbaijani people.

"I am interested in the Azerbaijani culture. I have seen their museums only in books. Among them, I am most interested in the museum with several memorials on the facade. I want to visit it very much. Though I do not know whether I will have enough time, but I hope to see this museum", said Davis.

Noting that he loves Azerbaijani people and feels the respect of this people for him, Davis said one of the greatest achievements of Azerbaijan is a position it takes in the issue of national minorities.

"I have information about the state of Azerbaijanis, residing in Georgia. I appreciated the agreements related to national minorities. All of us, being different, are equal at the same time and we must prevent discrimination", said the secretary general.

According to him, one of the factors, important for democracy, is implementation of a set program.

"President Ilham Aliyev is successfully implementing developed programs for the further democratization and development of the country. The second factor is gaining trust and respect of the people. Ilham Aliyev has attained this, which is proven by the number of votes, he gained among other candidates.

Democracy was initially weak in Azerbaijan, which gained independence, but through a short period of time Azerbaijan has gained much in the sphere of democracy, which is owing to President Ilham Aliyev", said Davis.
