Russian academician Araik Sargsyan: "Armenia must announce that Karabakh is its integral part"

21 November 2008 [16:53] - TODAY.AZ
"Armenia must declare that Karabakh war is over, borders have been defined and Nagorno Karabakh is its part:, considers member of the presidium of Russian academy of geopolitical problems Araik Sargsyan.
"There is no Karabakh issue for Armenia. It exists for Azerbaijan and some Turkish and western strategic research centers", said Sargsyan at a press conference Friday.

Moreover, he said the Bishkek agreement fixed results of the Karabakh war in May of 1994.

"Those who could gain from the war has gained something and someone has lost", explained Sargsyan.

At the same time, he considers that no one makes Armenia hurry for the soonest resolution of the Karabakh conflict, as the quo status has always been profitable for superpowers, pursuing their interests in the South Caucasus.

As for mutual concessions, according to Sargsyan, it means that the Armenian side concedes something in place of what it gets from Azerbaijan, if exactly: Armenia withdraws its troops from the occupied lands, while Azerbaijan must recognize independence of Karabakh in exchange.

"Yet Azerbaijan will never recognize independence of Nagorno Karabakh, as a subject of international law and in this case it does not need to concede something to us", said Sargsyan.
