Four candidacies withdrawn from presidential elections of Azerbaijan - UPDATED

The number of those who withdrew their candidacies for position of President of Azerbaijan reached four, according to APA: doctor of physico-mathematical science Qudrat Isaqov also withdrew his candidacy.

He declared about it in his letter, sent to mass media. According to Isaqov, he withdraws his candidacy in favor of working president Ilham Aliyev.

APA reports that Intigam Mammadov decided to withdraw his candidacy for presidency.

"I decided to withdraw my candidature. I will appeal to CEC on it tomorrow”, Intigam Mammadov, who nominated for Presidency and was registered yesterday, told APA.

Mammadov linked it with lack of time.

"I will not be able to collect 40.000 signatures during the remaining period," he said.
Mammadov works with the Express newspaper.

Two persons withdrew their candidacy for presidential elections in Azerbaijan to be held on October 15 of 2008, reports spokesman for the Central Election Commission Azer Sariyev.

He said adviser of Culture newspaper Teymur Guliyev submitted an appeal to the Central Election Commission about withdrawal of his candidacy for presidential elections, explaining it with a deterioration of the situation in the South Caucasus.

Official of the scientific and methodican magazine of the Education Ministry Fikret Akhadov was unable to collect 40,000 signature lists, therefore, he decided to withdraw his candidacy", said Sariyev.

The spokesman noted that the Central Election Commission passed a decision to annul the candidacies of the aforementioned people.
