Court dismisses claim of Azerbaijan's National Independence Party against Baku mayor's office

27 August 2008 [13:57] - TODAY.AZ
The Sabail district court dismissed the claim of the Azerbaijan National Independence Party against the Baku mayor's office, said spokesman for the Azerbaijan National Independence Party on press and agitation Ali Orujev.
He said, the party filed a claim to the court, as in 2007 it was not allowed to hold a protest against the decision of the Tariff Council on raising prices, thus violating the law "On Freedom of Assembly" and "Freedom of Speech".

"The party has been in law with the mayor's office since 2007, yet no decision on this issue has been taken so far. Though this time the court again rejected our claim, we do not intend to stop the process.

After we get necessary documents from the party, the party will appeal to the Appellate Court. If this instance does not grant our claim, we are ready to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.

We consider that our courts have no right to pass decisions on political issues, therefore, they are protracting the case", announced he.

Orujev also added that the accused party did not attend the trial.
