Armenian Dashnaktsutun party: "Armenia should demand signing of a document on non-application of force against Nagorno Karabakh"

16 August 2008 [11:45] - TODAY.AZ
Armenian side should protect its national and state interests in the negotiation process and demand for the sides to sign a document on non-application of force", says the statement, released by the bureau of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutun.
The party reminded that one of the main tasks for Armenia is recognition of the right of "Nagorno Karabakh people" to define their fate independently. The bureau of the party noted that the recent events around the South Ossetia proved that Azerbaijani efforts to settle the conflict by force do not only lack prospects but also may lead to unpredictable crisis in the region.

The party also focused on the security of the Armenian-settled Georgian region of Samtskhe-Javakheti, which is an issue of "protection of the rights of national minorities and autonomy".

"We can not be indifferent to it and we want to believe that Georgia will adhere to the key principles of international law". As was reported the period of settlement of international issues of the 90s by use of force has completed and the recent events in the South Caucasus once more proved the lack of prospects and tragicness of such a conduct.

The party noted that the recent events in the South Caucasus and war with all its tragic consequences, international tensions and possible developments disclose new realities, directly connected with the prospects of the region and create concerns among Armenians.

"The events, which occurred in the direct proximity to us, create new political and economic challenges. Certainly, the first response is a pain for numerous victims and destroyed lives from both sides", saus the statement. It is noted that the key task today is to avert the repetition of such a situation in the future.

It is noted in the announcement that Armenia need to realize that Georgia is its direct neighbor and its stability and consistent development are especially important for Armenia and Russia is a strategic partner and plays a leading role in the Caucasus. In this connection, the party also stresses that the deterioration of relations between Russia, EU and USA would do not good to the region.

"Despite the announcements of officials, there are no problems with cargo transportations". The party bureau voiced concern over this issue and hope that "friendly Georgia will not create obstacles" in the established situation.

The party hopes that both the conflicting parties and the world society will find a civilian way of resolution of the situation, which will also be supported by Armenia. The party voiced readiness to take steps for establishment of cooperation and development in the South Caucasus and provision of peaceful co-existence of neighbor peoples.
