Mubariz Qurbanly: "Unification of Azerbaijani opposition into a coalition will not be effective"

14 August 2008 [14:11] - TODAY.AZ
"The parties, not participating in the presidential elections of Azerbaijan, will not be able to influence public opinion and the process of presidential elections", said executive secretary of the Yeni Azerbaijan party Mubariz Qurbanly, commenting on the creation of a coalition by Azerbaijani opposition.
He said the unification of opposition into a coalition will not be effective and creation of unions or blocs is intended for the post-election period.

"If the opposition parties intended to influence the political situation in some way, they would have joined the presidential elections. Yet, these parties do not take part in this process and even do not have a candidate.

Today they announce that they will hold mass actions. Let them hold actions, but in the framework of the law. As I have previously mentioned, during these elections the opposition will not be able to gain more than 15% of votes. Considering this fact, the opposition rejected participation in the elections, thus demonstrating their success", said Qurbanly.
