BP unaware of BTC bombardment by Russian air forces

11 August 2008 [09:45] - TODAY.AZ
BP has no information about bombardment of BTC pipeline by Russian air forces, according to AFP.
The  spokesman for BP, operator of BTC pipeline, said they can not confirm the information about bombardment, made by Georgian officials. "We have no information about bombardment", reported BP representatives.

As is said, the pipeline, transiting oil from Azerbaijan, has not been operating since August 6. Yet, they noted that it is connected not with the events in South Ossetia but with a failure on the pipeline in early August.

It was Georgian Prime Minister Vladimir Gurgenidze who reported of rocket attacks by Russian air forces to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline on Saturday afternoon. He said the pipeline was not damaged and accused Russia of creating a threat to international energy security.

Later on Saturday, SOCAR president said oil transit via Georgian ports of Batumi and Kulevi was halted on August 9 due to the military actions in the region.
