According to Day.Az, Azerbaijan's public representatives by initiative of political scientist Ilgar Mamedov came to the Russian embassy to Azerbaijan to protest against the Kremlin's policy in Georgia.

They were received by secretary of the embassy Andrei Vladislavovich Sushko, who was briefed on the main point of the appeal and introduced a text, condemning the use of force towards Georgia by the Russian Federation against all norms of international law. The protesters supported the appeal of the Azerbaijani National Public Committee for European Integration, adopted several days ago. The embassy representative said that he will present information and the document to the ambassador.

Yeni Musavat newspaper correspondent Afgan Mukhtarli, covering the action, was detained following the meeting with Russian diplomats.

According to editor-in-chief of the newspaper Rauf Arifoghlu, the journalist was detained for photography taken during the picket.

"He is demanded to give explanations but he refuses to, as he was detained while fulfilling his professional duties. He is accused of taking photos in front of the embassy, which is said to be unacceptable for security purposes", said Arifoghlu.
