Chairman of Agrar party wins case in European court

11 July 2008 [09:11] - TODAY.AZ
The European Court of Human Rights has granted an appeal of chairman of Agrar party Vagif Hajibeyli, said plaintiff Vagif Hajibeyli personally.
He said he appealed to the European Court to attain justice.

"Actions, not complying with legal norms have been taken against me. I was arrested and beaten which resulted in brain concussion in an unsanctioned meeting on April 29 of 2000.I was held in jail for about a month and then released.

Before 2004 I continued court trials in the Azerbaijani courts regarding the illegal arrest, after which I appealed to the European court of human rights. I have sent about 50-60 appeals.

I demanded from the Republican prosecutor's office to apologize for the arrest, but it did not do it. Now I have won the case and I hope the people, who abused me, will bear the responsibility", noted he.

Asked how much he will demand for damage, caused to him, Hajibeyli said:

"Naturally, I will get the compensation, but money is not the most important for me. I am glad that I was able to attain justice and the European court recognized my right.
