Ilgar Gasimov: "Azerbaijani opposition leaders hold a simple political and commercial haggling"

09 July 2008 [12:24] - TODAY.AZ
"It is early to speak about boycott.

No one has officially declared it so far. Boycott is only based on the decision of supreme bodies of political structures", said chairman of Azerbaijan's way movement Ilgar Gasimov.

He said the leaders of the so-called opposition merely hold a political and commercial haggling, stating that supporters and opponents of boycott are struggling with each others within the party.

"Interpreting these words to ordinary language means "help us and we will create a background for democratic elections in the country with great pleasure" as we did it in the previous years. They even list definite figures. A party activist, who considers his political orgasnization the most opposition and the wisest one, voiced the figure of AZN 600,000.

Another party leader, which has been in search for the chairman of his party for the past 10 years, as he objectively considers himself unable to lead the political organization, estimated himself at $500,000. I think, opposition overestimate itself, which does not comply their market and political price.

There are other supporters of boycott, who will undertake final decision after their sponsors will arrive and declare that there is no need for their assistance "to strengthening democracy in the country", announced he.

According to Gasimov, he sometimes doubt about who is causing greater damage-opposition or powers.

"The conclusion is that they are worthy of each others, as they have caused the appearance of the opposite side themselves and the earlier they leave the political arena, the better it would be for the future of Azerbaijan.

Today, the country's voters have equal negative attitude both towards the authorities and opposition. People do not intend to take part in the political processes of the country. Voters will not take part in the elections without a call from outside due to the current situation in the country.

The more the so-called opposition powers will call on the population to boycott elections, the greater is the possibility that they will take part in the elections to spite them. Population's allergy on opposition leaders is so high, that in this case their silence is gold", said Gasimov.

Asked which factors may unite opposition, he said:

"Life showed that opposition was not able to unite either in Karabakh issue or democracy or issues connected with national interests of the country. Believe me, the so-called opposition will unite only in one case-when political movement "Azerbaijan's way" will intensify its political activity", concluded he.
