Turkish President invites President of Azerbaijan for ground-breaking ceremony of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Turkish section

President of Turkey Abdulla Gul and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a bilateral meeting at Rixos hotel in the framework of the visit to Kazakhstan, related to the 10th anniversary of Astana.
Day.Az reports with reference to the Turkish Cihan news agency that the meeting was private.

Moreover, Gul also met with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili. After the meeting he told reporters that he invited Presidents of Azerbaijan and Georgia for a ground-breaking ceremony of the Turkish section of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, to be held on July 24.

It should be noted that an missing section of the railroad, extending to 76 kilometers, will be built in Turkey in the framework of the project. The Turkish section construction is estimated at TRL 380,000,000. The project of the railway communication is planned to finish in 2009. The Marmaris project-construction of a tunnel under Bosporus will be complete by that time. This will help open railway communication to Europe.

In the framework of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project it is planned to build a new 105 kilometer section of the railway line with 76 km to pass Turkey, 29 km Georgia. Moreover a 183 km section of the Akhalkalaki-Marabda-Tbilisi railroad will be reconstructed in Georgia to raise the capacity up to 15 mln tons of cargo per year. There is also a plan to built a point for passing of trains from existing line in Georgia to the European in Akhalkalaki.
