Elmar Mamedyarov: "Armenia should conduct normal neighbor policy"

For continuation of talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia it is necessary to wait for the visit of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to the region, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov during a talk with reporters.

At the acquaintance meeting of the Presidents of the two countries each voiced his position and therefore, the co-chairs should generalize proposals of the two countries by the end of the month.

"An expanded meeting with participation of the Foreign Ministers and the co-chairs was held before the one-on-one meeting of the Presidents. There are some new moments. On the basis of this we decided that the co-chairs should visit the region", said he.

At the same time, Mamedyarov noted that there is a mutual understanding in that the conflict can not remain unsettled and it should be resolved.

The Minister noted that the Azerbaijani side wants the soonest resolution of this issue in the framework of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, provided that internally displaced persons return to their homes.  

"I have told my Armenian counterpart that they can not take the lands and move to another place and can not erect a fence. Moreover, I told him that they should conduct normal policy of neighborhood and this will be in the interests of their state. I want to believe very much that Armenia will realize it and the sooner they realize it the better for them. Moreover, I have noted that this conflict does not comply with their national interests and Azerbaijan will never accept the loss of its territories", said Mamedyarov.

Touching upon possible compromises, the Minister noted that from the Azerbaijani side the compromise is an intention to peacefully settle this conflict, discuss status of Nagorno Karabakh on the basis of any model of autonomy, which exists in the world and which Armenians want.

"At the same time, there are some provisions and the main is withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from Nagorno Karabakh, return of Azerbaijanis to their lands, creation of stable situation, laying communication and economic development", said Mamedyarov.
