Kremlin again tries to raise "lezguin issue" in Azerbaijan

13 May 2008 [10:26] - TODAY.AZ
A conference "Cultural heritage, culture of Lezguin people: History and the present" will be held in Moscow on May 14-15.
The event is arranged by the Russian Ministry of Regional Development, Ministry of Foreign  Affairs, State Duma and Linguistic Institute under Russian Academy of Sciences.

The discussed will be two themes: "Caucasus Albania and its historical and cultural heritage" and "Role of historical archetypes in modern development of the Lezguin people: traditions, problems and prospects", abkhazeti.ru reports.

"Certainly, speaking about lezguins of Caucasus Albania, not Daghestan but Azerbaijan is implied. At the same time, its representatives have not been invited to the symposium", reads the site.

As is seen Russian tends to tense the international relations in Azerbaijan's west.

They make an attempt to attribute the history, cultural heritage, folklore, memorials of Caucasus Albania to Lezguins. Thus, Lezguins start to think that a large state in the territory of Azerbaijan belonged to them. Thus, they are made a hint that they should return the land, "belonging them since ancient".

The conference is initiated by the head of the structure, called "Federal National and Cultural Autonomy of Lezguins" (FNCAL) Arif Kerimov.

Day.Az learned that Arif Kerimov was born in 1952 and comes from the Qarabulagh village of Oghuz, Azerbaijan. He currently lives in Moscow with his family.

It should be noted that FNCAL was founded in 1999 for strengthening works on propaganda, agitation and coordination among lezguins, residing in Russia. The organization is headquartered in Moscow at Bolshoi Kharitonovskiy side street, 10/1/2. Contact phonesof the organizations: 923-05-22, 921-66-17, 921-44-34.

Notably, while residing in Azerbaijan, Arif Kerimov was famous as a staunch nationalist, deputy chairman of the Lezgiun Democratic party, functioning in Azerbaijan in 1992-1995 and representing the radical wing of the Sadval organization. By spreading the ideas of the Sadval organization in Qabala, Oghuz and Sheki regions of Azerbaijan, Kerimov also held meetings with Sadval members in Daghestan.

Kerimov maintain close relations with Sadval activist Dadashbala Rizvanov, who dealt with development of armed attackes from the territory of Daghestan on the Russian-Azerbaijani border in September-October of 1997. As is reported, Kerimov also attracted new people to the military training bases, functioning on the territories of Maherramkend, Ahti and Qasimkend regions of Daghestan.

As is reported in 1996-1998 Arif Kerimov visited Nagorno Karabakh and spent $300,000 received from Armenians on organization of works for creation of the aforementioned military training bases and definition of political tasks.

Kerimov also undertook efforts to release Sadval representatives, imprisoned for terrorist act in the underground.

In addition, it should be noted that the printing press, representing the organization, is Lezguin news paper, issued in Moscow since 1999 (locates at 49 Ostojenko street (contact tel: 246-74-56). The newspaper periodically issues anti-Azerbaijani articles. The articles criticize the internal and external policy of Azerbaijan, making accent on the so-called violation of rights of national minorities, residing in Azerbaijan, and the alleged persecution of the representatives of national minorities of the bodies of national securities and police.

In the light of the aforementioned facts it becomes obvious that the conference is arranged by Russian and Armenian special services and provocation speeches regarding Azerbaijan are not ruled out.

It is only left to say that the organizers of the conference, provoking separatist spirit, are official state structures of Russia-Ministry of Regional Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Russian State Duma.
