Prosecutor demands upholding verdict, passed on editor-in-chief of Azadlyg newspaper

12 May 2008 [17:04] - TODAY.AZ
The Baku Appellate Court presided by judge Abid Abdinbeyov considered the appeal on the case of editor-in-chief of Azadlyg newspaper Ganimat Zahid.
The due information was provided by reporter's defender Elchin Sadighov.

He said the state prosecutor found it unnecessary to change the decision of the Yasamal district court and demanded not to grant Zahid's appeal.

Thus, the defenders of the editor-in-chief asked to pass a verdict of not guilty on reporters' case.

Sadikhov noted that on May 13 the Baku Appellate Court will pass a decision on the said appeal.

It should be noted that on March 7 the Yasamal district court of Baku presided by judge Sudaba Mamedova passed a verdict on the case of editor-in-chief of Azadlyg opposition daily Ganimat Zahid and Baku resident Vusal Hasanov.

Under the verdict, Ganimat Zahid was sentenced to 4 years in prison and Vusal Hasanov to 1.5 years.
