06 May 2008 [11:40] - TODAY.AZ
Armenia may be doomed to the fate of Central Asian states-deficit of foodstuffs and rise in prices on products.
The due announcement was made by US analyst of Armenian origin Richard Giragosyan, who prepared a number of reports for the congress, US armed forces, UN and World Bank.

"When it all becomes an obvious reality, all explanations, aimed to soften the lack of legitimacy of the Armenian power, will immediately lose their power", said Girogasyan.

He noted that the lack of legitimacy of Armenian powers has been compensated for a long period or justified with the economic development and two-digit figures of economic growth, which becomes a paradox, as despite these figures, the social-economic inequality, polarization in the society are deepening and corruption is spreading", said Giragosyan.

The expert said he is pessimistic about the political future of President Serzh Sarkissyan. Richard Girogasyan announced that being in Yerevan for the past 13 months, he observed the development of political events in Armenia. He said Armenia is quite a close political system, where leaders put their own interests over the national ones.

"We see right now how one of the pages of Armenian history is closing. Serzh Sarkissyan is the last representative of the group, which obtained political and economic influence from the Karabakh problem and nationalist moods of the 1990s', said the analyst.

He noted that it was planned, but reality proved the impossibility to ensure status-quo in Armenia. According to Giragosyan, emergency state and stiffening of this regime did not promote the settlement of problems, which emerged in the country following the elections and emergency state is just a temporary ceasefire, as the actions of powers just strengthen the determination of the opposition.

It should be noted that in line with the Index of consumer prices in Armenia for January-April of 2008, tendency of price hike on bread, flour, as well as butter and vegetable oil. The average monthly rise in consumer prices made up 1.5% in January-April of 2008, which is a 1% rise) exceeds the indicator of the last year (0.5%).

In April of 2008, prices on meat produces have risen by 2% as compared to March and prices on coffee and tea increased by over 3%.
