Acting secretary of Russian Security Council: "Cargo, destined for Iran and arrested in Azerbaijan, has nothing to do with dual purpose cargoes"

01 May 2008 [10:19] - TODAY.AZ
Acting secretary of the Russian Security Council Valentin Sobolev considers that the situation with the arrest of cargo, destined for Bushehr NPP, constructed in Iran, on the Iranian border, was caused by "misunderstanding".
"Questions on this subject were asked during the visit. Russia has fulfilled all its obligations. The cargo, destined for Iran, is really connected with thermal insulation and has nothing in common with the dual purpose cargoes", Sobolev said in Tehran, where he arrived for a three day visit for consultations with the Iranian leadership.

It should be reminded that the cargo of the Russian Aromstroiexport containing thermal-insulating facilities for the Bushehr NPP was arrested on the border between Azerbaijan and Iran a month ago.

"I think this situation is caused by some misunderstanding,  and it should be settled in the duly manner. Russia has committed no violations, neither has Iran", said Sobolev.

Representatives of the Azerbaijani customs bodies announce that in line with the requirements of control over the export cargo, its transit via the territory of the country and its borders requires permission of the Cabinet of Ministers.
