12 April 2008 [09:05] - TODAY.AZ
GUAM countries have made a joint statement in response to OSCE Chairman-in-Office Alexander Stubb’s outlining priorities of Finland’s Chairmanship in OSCE Permanent Council on April 10. Ukraine’s representation in OSCE told APA that head of Ukrainian representation to the Permanent Council had voiced the statement.

The statement says that the priorities outlined by Stubb coincide with the interests of GUAM states and they are supported by the member states.

"Frozen conflicts can be solved only basing on constructive negotiations. GUAM countries believe that OSCE, as an organization which plays a great role in preventing and solving conflicts, will contribute to the settlement of frozen conflicts in Azerbaijan, Moldova and Georgia", the statement reads.

The statement notes that GUAM countries support personal representative of OSCE Chairman-in-Office on the settlement of conflicts Heikki Talvitie’s activity and they are ready to help reviving the process of negotiations.

"GUAM’s position on the settlement of the frozen conflicts remains unchanged. According to the principles of the international law, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova should be respected, UN resolutions and OSCE decisions should be taken as a basis and refugees and displaced persons should return to their native lands", the statement says.
