Robert Kocharyan: "There are two options-either the recognition of independence, or conclusion of a contract between Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia on mutual interaction in the sphere of defense and prevention of possible aggression"

The due announcement was made by Armenian President Robert Kocharyan during his short-term visit to the self-declared "Nagorno Karabakh Republic" answering the question on possible recognition of the so-called "Nagorno Karabakh Republic" by Armenia.

"I think such a contract will prevent militaristic statements".

At the same time Kocharyan announced that recent events around the conflict settlement, attempts to transfer the resolution process under the UN auspices, militaristic statements of Azerbaijan makes Armenian side undertake due steps as to provision of Nagorno Karabakh's security.

Speaking about the negotiation process through the last 10 years, President of Armenia noted that the issue of Nagorno Karabakh status has never been discussed within Azerbaijan. He said the document, proposed by the mediators, aims at recognition of the right for self-determination.
