Head of Armenian Academy of Political Studies: "Adoption of the resolution on Nagorno Karabakh by the UN is a failure of Armenian diplomacy"

01 April 2008 [13:29] - TODAY.AZ
Adoption of the UN resolution on Nagorno Karabakh, which is not suitable for Armenia is an obvious failure of Armenian diplomacy, said Alexander Manasyan, head of the Academy of Political Studies of Armenia, in the Zerkalo debate club.
He said the local diplomacy has agreed with the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan for already 18 years and make no response to the initiatives of the Azerbaijani side.

Meanwhile,  active measures should have been taken against it following the inauguration of President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan in 1998. Potential is good for adoption of such measures and steps and now, after the Kosovo precedent appeared, it is possible to raise the issue of legitimacy of Azerbaijani borders.

"Adoption of the UN resolution on March 14 is not a tragedy, but we should be more active", Manasyan said.

In turn, political scientist Manvel Sarkisyan noted that Azerbaijan tries to react on the threat of Kosovo precedent this way.

Baku's actions are mainly aimed at changing the whole international atmosphere around the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. Armenian side does not make any response, just threatening to recognize independence of Nagorno Karabakh.

"We always have a chance to undertake measures, but we do not do anything, trying to preserve the status-quo by any means, which is a disaster for us", the political scientist considers.
