27 February 2008 [14:32] - TODAY.AZ
The appeal of President of Azerbaijan has already been submitted in a form of a law-making initiative to Milli Medjlis and it will be considered by the parliamentary commission on defense and security on February 28.

The due announcement was made by MP Zahid Orudj, member of the permanent parliamentary commission on issues of defense and security.

He said the document is connected with the withdrawal of Azerbaijani peacekeepers due to the situation, which established in Kosovo region of former Yugoslavia.

He noted that participation of 34 Azerbaijani military men in the peacekeeping operation in Kosovo got a big political assessment and was regarded as Azerbaijan's worthy contribution to boosting security in the world.

"However, as is said in the appeal of President, the situation is quite different now due to the recognition of the independence of this region by some countries. Official Baku's position on the said problem has been reflected in the statement of the Foreign Ministry and obviously our military politics should be brought in compliance with our political course", he said.

He noted that many started to interpret the decision as Azerbaijan's intention to refuse any international peacekeeping missions.

"This is not so. Azerbaijan will further continue its participation in other regions, in Iraq and in Afghanistan".

Zahid Orudj also said that the decision will not lead to international disapproval or external pressure on Azerbaijan.

"Anyway, nobody has forced our country to join this mission. We have done it voluntarily. Therefore, our current independent decision should be greeted with respect. Many countries have quitted the international anti-terror coalition in Iraq, which did not lead to any pressure on them", Z.Orudj noted.
