The commemorative event on Khojaly genocide joined by Abbasali Hasanov, Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran, was not permitted in Iran, Said Muganli, editor of “Yarpaq” newspaper which is publishing in Iran told APA.
The commemorative event on the 16th anniversary of Khojaly genocide was prevented in “Nur” mosque in the center of Tehran on February 23. Officials of Iranian law-enforcement bodies entering the mosque demanded to stop the event.
“We wanted to enter the mosque after namaz. The officials of Iranian law-enforcement bodies began to take out the attendees of mosque. Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran was also taken out of mosque,” he said.
They used force. “Hundreds of Muslims were killed in Khojaly and people gathered in mosque to pray for them. Policeman said that we made a statement against Iran and the event is illegal,” he said.
Muganli noted that the protest action was not permitted in front of the Armenian embassy in Iran.
“Special security measures have been taken in front of the Armenian embassy for a week. Azerbaijanis are prevented to hold the meeting here. We were obliged to put flowers in front of the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran,” he said. Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran refused to elaborate on the issue.
