“The recent discussions of the amendments to Azerbaijan’s Electoral Code in Baku were successful. The document should be submitted to the parliament by March,” head of Azerbaijani parliament’s administration Safa Mirzayev told APA exclusively. Mr. Mirzayev said that technical issues of the document were solved during the discussions with the CoE Venice Commission in Baku on February 7-8.
According to him, these are the issues on proper voters’ lists, considering complaints and other rules.
“These problems usually appear because of irresponsibility of election commissions. These issues are a little delicate,” he said.
Safa Mirzayev said only one technical issue on considering complaints remains unsolved.
“The document will be ready for discussion, after the issue is solved. There are no points causing anxiety and divergence. The main thing was to eliminate the problems impeding the election process,” he said.
As regards the formation of election commissions on parity basis, head of the parliament’s administration said the opposition parties missed the meeting.
“This issue was not discussed. I consider that the main thing is to provide conditions for Azerbaijani people to express their will properly,” he said.
