"In ideal we consider that Nagorno Garabagh is a part of Armenia, but in the principle maximal compromise we can make is an independent status of this territory", Ara Abramyan, president of the Union of Armenians of Russia, told Day.Az.

He commented on the activity of the Union in Russia and said that Armenia and Armenian Diaspora do not maintain permanent institutional relations.

"All-Armenian congresses are sometimes convened, definite national tasks are set, which are more tactic than strategic."

He said it is necessary to establish more effective institutional ties between Armenians, Armenians powers and Diaspora organizations so that to intensify coordination of the actions of World Armenians to settle the strategic tasks which Armenians face both in Armenia and in many countries, where Armenian communities are widely represented.

He noted that among all candidates for President's he knows Serj Sarkisyan more as they had had constructive business relations.

"I think Serj Sarkisyan will be able to ensure stability and succession of powers in Armenia and maintain stable development of the country.

He said the activity of the Union is not targeted against Azerbaijan.

"Position of the Union of Armenians of Russia on the resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno Garabagh is well-known. We consider that Nagorno Garabagh is a part of Armenia with mostly Armenian population. It was their right to gain independence following the USSR collapse.

He said maximal compromise Armenians can make is granting independent status to this territory.

"I think it would remove all problems, which are now deteriorating relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and between the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan", he said.
