"The possibility to settle Nagorno Garabagh conflict is not exhausted and it is important that Armenia recognize territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan-the right of Nagorno-Garabagh residents for self-determination", Armenian Prime Minister Serj Sarkisyan said at the meeting with EU special representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby.
He also said: "It seems that the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev sees prospects of the settlement of Nagorno-Garabagh conflict in the period following presidential elections in Armenia and Azerbaijan".
According to the press service of the Armenian government, the special representative noted that the European Council is interested in preservation of everything that has been achieved by the sides and has created favorable conditions for further negotiations.
Serj Sarkisyan, in turn, noted that presidential elections in the two countries, should not be bound to the conflict settlement.
"Why should candidates for president hide their views regarding the conflict settlement? If there are problems in the belief of the citizens of the two countries in the rectitude of their positions and if there is a concern that signing any document may reduce the number of votes, it can not serve as a ground.
Perhaps, it is not advantageous for several candidates, but it is important for both countries that the candidates to presidents present their exact positions", Serj Sarkisyan noted and added that in such case the president will be able to say to its voters: "You have voted for my program and I must implement it".
