Appointment of rapporteur on political prisoners for Azerbaijan to be considered at PACE January session

Andres Herkel, co-rapporteur for Azerbaijan of the PACE Monitoring Commission, said the appoinment of a special apporteur on political prisoners for Azerbaijan was raised at the meeting of the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights in Venice.

“The proposal will be presented to the PACE bureau and considered within the framework of the session,” he said.

British MP Malcolm Bruce had previously been a special rapporteur on political prisoners by 2005. Stating that the problem was partially solved in Azerbaijan, the Council of Europe entrusted the issue on political prisoners to the co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee.
