Over 40 amendments are to be made to the country legislation for Azerbaijan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), deputy foreign minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev said briefing journalists.
The deputy minister underlined that the plans on adjustment of the legislation to the WTO were to be drawn up by the end of the year, it has not been completed.
Mr. Mammadguliyev said the negotiations were continued with the representatives of US, Japan, Korea and Taiwan province of China in Geneva on June. The working group on Azerbaijan had informal meeting on June 21, which discussed the current negotiations and further activities. The central issue was implementing action plan in improving the country legislation.
“The main remark was that we are being late, for instance, we fail to give full and detailed replies on monopoly, regulation of prices.”
The deputy foreign minister, however, said certain activities are on in this field, “If we achieve serious progress in the related issues by September-October, the working group on Azerbaijan can have an official meeting by the end of this year.”
Azerbaijan got observer status at the WTO in 1997.
