27 May 2007 [18:15] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov is scheduled to pay a visit to Iran, the country's ambassador to Tehran said on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters during a ceremony at the embassy complex to mark Azerbaijan's National Day, the envoy described the two countries' political ties as excellent, and expressed the hope that potentials and possibilities of Tehran and Baku for expansion of ties would increase.

He further noted recent measures adopted for the facilitated visit of Iranian nationals to the autonomous republic of Nakhichivan, and promised that travelers would receive the entry visa at the borders in future.

Abbasali Hassanov also said that following the construction of Takhti-Poldasht bridge, trips by the two countries' citizens would be further facilitated.

He pointed out that his country is due to host Iran's cultural week in autumn.

Elsewhere, the envoy reminded that his country is scheduled to host the upcoming ministerial meeting of the Caspian Sea littoral states in the near future, and added that Iranian and Azeri foreign ministers are due to attend bilateral talks to discuss issues pertaining to the said ministerial meeting.

The diplomat strongly denied establishment of any US military base in Azerbaijan, and said such rumors are promulgated in an effort to estrange the Iranian and Azeri people. Fars News Agency
