Azerbaijani Parliament discusses education bill

Today closed debate on draft bill on education was held in Azerbaijani Parliament's science and education standing commission.

Speaker Ogtay Asadov also participated in the debate. He said that debated draft has been sent to 60 organizations for reference, and all the proposals of those organizations have been taken into consideration. The chief of the parliament's standing commission for science and education Shamsaddin Hajiyev gave thorough information on the draft.

He said according to the education bill, education in Azerbaijan is stated as strategical significant, priority activity field, and reflect national interests of citizens, society and secular state.

"Special attention is paid that this legislative act did not contradict international conventions and interstate agreements that Azerbaijan supports."

Education Minister Misir Mardanov commenting on the draft said that application of multi-level education system in Azerbaijan is intended in the draft bill, APA reports.

The parliamentarians, rectors of Universities, education officials stating their reference and proposals at the debate exchanged opinions on controlling education system, rights and duties of educational institutions, private education institutions, strengthening base of technical vocational schools, bachelor and master's levels, financing educational institutions and other important issues.

At the end of the debate, draft was returned to the Standing Commission for Science and Education for improvement.

Asadov called for improvement of the draft, taking into account and submitting the draft to the autumn session of Parliament.
