Local executive authorities should be abolished in Azerbaijan, Rovshan Aghayev says

The concept focuses on the municipalities, limited financial resources, relations with local executive authorities, problems with administrative division and solution to the problems.

Rovshan Aghayev, head of the research group, said municipalities are in small size while large in number, APA reports.

Azerbaijan tops 12 European states with 2,750 local authorities. There are 34 municipalities per 100,000 people in Azerbaijan while the figure is 1.6 in Lithuania, 3.2 in Switzerland, 3.4 in Bulgaria, and 5 in Denmark.

"Municipalities with below 1,000 people account for about 50% of the all municipalities in Azerbaijan but there are not municipalities with below 1,000 people in Europe," he noted.

He added that the institution of local executive authorities should be abolished the municipalities should be empowered.
