Polish leaders meet Azerbaijani parliament speaker

23 May 2007 [08:05] - TODAY.AZ
Poland's Senate Speaker Bogdan Borusewicz and visiting Speaker of Azerbaijani parliament Ogtay Asadov discussed Tuesday possibilities of developing parliamentary, political and economic cooperation.

"Relations between Poland and Azerbaijan are very good. We would like them to be better especially in the field of economy where a lot can be done," Borusewicz told reporters after the meeting.

Ogtay Asadov stressed that the two countries should create a legal basis that would enable the development of economic cooperation between Warsaw and Baku.

According to Asadov bilateral relations fall short of both countries' economic potential.

Poland's Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski also met with Asadov in the same day. The two politicians declared the willingness to strengthen good relations between Poland and Azerbaijan.

Kaczynski noted that in recent time contacts between representatives of the two countries had been frequent. He recalled recent official visits of Polish President Lech Kaczynski in Baku and the Azerbaijani president attending the energy summit in Polish southern city of Cracow, which was held on May 11 and 12.

The prime minister believes that the quickest possible building of a transport corridor for energy raw materials from Central Asia to Europe is a very important question in relations between Poland and Azerbaijan. Xinhua
