16 May 2007 [14:15] - TODAY.AZ
"Sending a note to Russia was a right step from legal, principal and formal aspect. Azerbaijani has to express its position regarding these issues."

"Analyzing Russia's reaction shows that Russia does not want to take responsibility" Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov told journalists, APA reports.

"Russia says as there is no censorship in the country it has no official relation with the TV channel. However, when analyzing political orientation and legal principles of RTR channel one can understand that this is the state’s official channel. The statements made on Russian TV channels should not contradict the interests and damage statehood and sovereignty of Azerbaijan which Moscow calls a friend country," he said.

Commenting on recent negotiations with Russian Foreign Ministry, the Deputy Foreign Minister said the Ministry expressed its discontent with regard to RTR TV channel and Russian Great Encyclopedia.

"We touched on this problem during the negotiations in Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Azerbaijan next week. There will be high and highest level talks which will focus such issues," he said.

Araz Azimov added that Russia intends to debate on transmission of its TV channels in Azerbaijan.
