President Aliyev meets Secretary-General of the Arab League

On Monday, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan met with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Amr Moussa.

The League, which is an intergovernmental organization, was established in 1945 in Cairo. At present, this Organization unites 22 states.

On October 15, 2005, when the Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov paid a visit to Egypt, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and LAS. In 2006, Faig Bagirov, ambassador of Azerbaijan to Egypt, was appointed Azerbaijan's permanent observer in LAS.

President Aliyev and Secretary-General Amr Moussa discussed the existent level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and LAS and prospects of the further expansion of relations.

The parties expressed satisfaction with Azerbaijan's cooperation with LAS, saying 7 embassies of this country opened in member-states of the League. AzerTAg
