Azerbaijan to celebrate 80th jubilee of its first defense minister

The 80th jubilee of the first Azerbaijani defense minister, General Lieutenant Valeh Barshadli will be celebrated in Baku.

Yashar Jafarli, the chairman of Reserved and Retired Officers Union told the APA that Officers' Union is already preparing events on it.

"General Barshadli was one of the famous servicemen not only in Azerbaijan, but also in former USSR. The establishment of Independent Azerbaijan Armed Forces has been implemented at his initiative," he said.

Lieutenant General Barshadli was appointed the first Azerbaijani Defense Minister in September, 1991.
