Baku to host OIC international conference

Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will organize an international conference "Role of media in the development of tolerance and mutual understanding" in Baku on April 26-28.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and OIC Secretary General Ekmaleddin Ihsanoglu will first address to the participants, APA reports.

Former Romanian president Ion Ilescu and director-general of ISESCO Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri are expected to address the conference. Miklos Haraszti, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media will make report on the theme "Difficulties of organizing dialogue through news media".

Ambeyi Ligabo, UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression, editors of famous editions of Switzerland, Egypt and Germany will comment on the issue.

Ambassador Omur Orhun, OSCE Representative on Combating Intolerance and Discrimination against Muslims, Ufuk Gokcen, Advisor to the Secretary General of OIC will address the conference on the theme "Tolerance – a way to understanding".
 
Media representatives of Slovenia, Italy and Saudi Arabia are expected to address the conference on the theme "Progress through mutual respect".

Mogens Schmidt. Deputy Assistant Director-General of UNESCO will make speech on the theme “Education and common values” on April 27.

The fifth theme of the conference will be "State and civil society: partners or enemies?".

BBC journalist Wiliam Lo, ambassador Stefany Minikes, Saeddin Taib advisor of secretary general of OIC, correspondent of Al-Jazeera Moscow bureau Abdel Munem will address the conference.

The last issue to be debated at the conference will be "Analyzing international dialogue".

Bayarkhuu Dashdorj, officer of Foreign Ministry of Mongolia will lead the last session. President of Ukraine’s UNIAN agency Irina Gerashchenko, officer of Indonesian Foreign Ministry Dalton Sembiring, representative of Belgium parliament Stef Goris will address the conference.

The participants of the conference are planned to visit Azerbaijani regions Ismayilli, Lenkeran and Guba on April 28.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is expected to attend the opening ceremony of the conference.
