PACE can not appoint special rapporteur for Azerbaijan on political prisoners only on NGOs initiative

"Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) can not appoint a special rapporteur for Azerbaijan on political prisoners only on NGOs initiative. Such initiatives should be first put forward by parliamentarians," PACE Secretary General Mateo Sorinas told journalists.

He considers that the initiatives on appointing special rapporteur on political prisoners need to be specified, APA reports.

"PACE can not only take into consideration NGOs initiatives. Parliamentarians first put forward such initiatives. We have not received any official appeal reading this," he said.
