17 March 2007 [00:03] - TODAY.AZ
Trial on case of former Health Minister Ali Insanov and ten more defendants accused of embezzlement, abuse of power and bribery continued in the second part of the day at Azerbaijan's Court of Grave Crimes.

The sitting is presided over by Judge Faig Gasimov, APA reports.

Ali Insanov asked to allow his meeting with his lawyers on Sundays. The judge said that defendant has the right to meet with his lawyer and they will appeal to the leadership of the detention place.

Ali Insanov said that the leadership of the detention place does not allow his meeting with his lawyers on Sundays and asked to make a decision with regard to it.

The judge said the problem will be clarified at the end of the trial.

Ali Mammadov gave testimony. The witness said that he had a drugstore in Shamkir and appealed to the Health Ministry to get license.

"I paid AZM1 million for this. But I was told that I have to pay $1,000 in addition. I appealed to the pharmaceutical department. I gave $1,000 to Eldar Rzayev, the officer of that department and after met with Akif Maharramov and got license," the witness said.

Rzayev said that he did not take bribe from him.

Following this, the judge said the testimonies of the witnesses are over.

The trial will continue on March 19.
