Abdullah Gul urges not to forget Armenian terror

16 March 2007 [23:42] - TODAY.AZ
A ceremony was held in commemoration of Turkish diplomats murdered by Armenian terrorist organizations.

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, officials of the Foreign Ministry and the family members of the killed diplomats attended the ceremony in the cemetery "Cebeci Asri".

Reminding of Armenian terrorists who killed several career Turkish diplomats, Abdulla Gul protested against the debates on so called Armenian genocide in many world countries' parliaments.

"I hope that those who discuss false genocide questions and cherish kindly feelings for terrorist groups should remember those terrorist actions carried out by Armenian assassinators and will not serve as instrument for these games," the diplomat underlined.

Emphasizing Turkish peoples' courageous steps for high ideals Abdullah Gul said that until today million members of Turkish nation died as martyrs.

Addressing to the widows of killed Turkish diplomats he said: "Reminding of your sorrows we may make you sad. But it shows that we do not forget them. Sorrow and pride are together."

After Abdullah Gul's speech prayers were read for martyrs and garlands put on the graves. One young diplomat woman and one young diplomat man stood at the grave during the ceremony.

The Armenian assaults against Turkish diplomats started in 1973 when Mehmet Baydar and Bahadir Demir, Turkish consul-general in Los-Angeles and his assistant were murdered by 78-year-old Armenian named Mkrtich Yanikian.

Inviting Mehmet Baydar and his assistant Bahadir Demir to hotel Yanikian shot two Turkish diplomats dead.

Armenian terrorists killed 35 Turkish diplomats. 6 of them were ambassadors. The last assassination against Turkish ambassador to Greece Haluk Sipahioghlu was carried out on July, 4 in 1994. APA
