Azerbaijani Emergencies Minister receives NATO senior official

Azerbaijan's Emergencies Minister, General Colonel Kamaladdin Heydarov today received the delegation led by Robert Simmons, NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia.

The minister said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev does his best to ensure peace and welfare in the region and our country is one of NATO's reliable partners. He added that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to geopolitical and strategic position of NATO in the South Caucasus and naturally, intends to integrate into this organization.

Azerbaijani minister gave information about the Emergencies Ministry and noted that the ministry has taken corresponding measures for the formation its bodies, renovation of different bodies in line with modern standards since it began operating a year ago.

The minister said the Emergencies Ministry bears great responsibility on the eve of the transportation of Azerbaijan's rich gas and oil resources to Europe, and future transportation of energy resources of neighboring countries through our country. He noted Azerbaijan has contributed to ensuring peace and energy security in the region, there were improvements in organizing civil defense in emergency situations last year, and the duties and dimensions of Emergencies Ministry have been determined.

Robert Simmons said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Brussels gave impetus to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and NATO. He noted that President Ilham Aliyev attaches great importance to active cooperation with NATO and added that Azerbaijan has the image of a country pursuing reliable and peaceful policy. APA
