The protesters claimed that David Garadji cloister in Azerbaijan-Georgia borders will be used by both countries. Claiming that the cloister is in Georgian territory, party leader Jondi Bagaturiya declared that the Georgian government will compromise the territory to Azerbaijani side in return of gas and railway. The party leader stressed that the information comes from trustful sources.
Elkhan Polukhov, press secretary of the Azerbaijani embassy said that the protesters have not presented a written petition to the embassy. He noted that written slogans were absent either.
"According to the press, the protest action was held because of cloister. The protesting party is not influential in Georgia. This is a populist step aiming to gain popularity by such actions. There might be other forces behind these actions, who aim to strain the relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia," he said, APA's Georgian bureau reports.
